Music at Wasatch Elementary

Music is an essential part of the Wasatch experience. Through music, students build creativity, confidence, focus, collaboration, and joy. We believe every child should have meaningful opportunities to sing, play, listen, move, create, perform, and respond to music.

In music classes, students develop skills in rhythm, melody, movement, listening, musical expression, and performance. They learn to use their voices, instruments, and creative thinking to explore musical ideas and connect with others.

Kindergarten through fourth-grade students participate in general music instruction, where they sing, play classroom instruments, explore recorders and drumming, listen to a variety of music, and build foundational musical skills. Fifth and sixth-grade students may continue their musical growth through band, string orchestra, or choir.

Music also supports the broader life of our school. Students have opportunities to perform, share learning, participate in school traditions, and experience the arts as part of a joyful and connected community.

At Wasatch, music helps students create, perform, reflect, and belong. We are proud to support young musicians as they grow in skill, confidence, and love for the arts.

General Music Instruction

In grades K - 4, students are taught general music concepts through activities that include singing, playing instruments, recorders, drumming and rhythm instruments, listening, and music appreciation. 5th and 6th grade students may choose to participate in band, string orchestra, or the Wasatch Star choir.

Instrumental Music

Instrumental music is offered to all interested 5th and 6th grade students. Students may choose to participate in band or string orchestra. Students will meet certified music teachers every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Students may rent instruments from local music stores or bring their own from home. There is a limited number of instruments available for rental through the district.
