Drama and Theater at Wasatch Elementary

Drama and theater are an important part of the fine arts experience at Wasatch Elementary. Through theater, students build confidence, creativity, collaboration, communication skills, and a strong sense of belonging.

Wasatch is proud to partner with the University of Utah Youth Theatre department to provide drama and theater experiences for our students. The program is overseen by director Penny Cawood, whose leadership helps bring high-quality theater instruction and performance opportunities to our school community.

Through drama, students learn to use voice, movement, expression, imagination, and teamwork to communicate ideas and tell stories. Theater also supports important classroom skills, including listening, speaking, reading, writing, problem-solving, and perspective-taking.

Students may have opportunities to create, rehearse, perform, reflect, and respond throughout the school year. These experiences help children take creative risks, support one another, and develop confidence as performers, storytellers, and members of an ensemble.

At Wasatch, we believe the arts help students shine. Drama and theater give our students another powerful way to create, perform, reflect, and belong.
